After practicing accounting and law, David Eisner entered the insurance industry in 1966 in the Home Office of Mutual of New York (MONY) and became the youngest Director/Officer of MONY in 1969. While at MONY, he was one of the original Registered Principals in starting up MONY Securities Corporation paving the way for MONY to enter the securities industry.
He entered the field force as an outside salesman in 1974 and was inducted into MONY’s prestigious Hall of Fame in 1979. He became a Chartered Life Underwriter® certificant (CLU®) in 1979 and taught many of the courses required for advanced degrees. Having been a member of the industry’s elite Association for Advanced Life Underwriting (AALU), he was a Life and Qualifying Member of the Million Dollar Round Table (MDRT) for over 30 consecutive years as he consistently became one of MONY’s Top 50 producers.
In 1982, he was awarded the Harry K. Gutmann Memorial award signifying his professional accomplishments in providing service to over 1,000 clients. This award encompassed production, high moral standards, as well as giving back to the community, industry, and company. He was frequently called on to work jointly with other agents because of his expertise. In 2003, he was also awarded the Ted Shalack Award from MONY for exemplifying professional persistence of almost 100%. During his tenure at one of MONY’s largest agencies, he was named Agency “Man of the Year” in 1983. He was also honored at MONY conventions with the highlight of his career shared with MONY’s leading producers at one of their annual conventions, with a 30-minute film expose of his career. He was a frequent lecturer on tax and financial planning.
He has also consistently given back to his community as “special counsel” to the Rabbi at Temple Judea in his hometown of Massapequa. He served as a Trustee for the Fund for Life, a major Temple fundraising organization. He was Chairman of the Fund Raising and Investment Committee as well as Finance Chairman.
He served as a trustee for the SK Foundation, a charity established for the benefit of children’s charities. He served on the Board of Governors at the Sunrise Psychiatric Clinic from 1987 to 1997. He also served for 8 years on the Board of Governors at the Cold Spring Country Club. Finally, in his younger years, he was counsel to the Planning Commission for the Village of Massapequa Park for 3 years at the same time he coached a traveling soccer team for the Massapequa Athletic Club.
About 15 years ago, he has teamed up with his son, Michael, to provide continuation of service to his client base and in that way, his firm of Gutmann-Eisner Associates will endure for some time. As the managing partner, his firm traces its roots back almost 100 years to Harry Gutmann’s affiliation with MONY in 1932.
